Mabel Balfour Hegoafrikako apartheidaren aurkako sindikalista eta ekintzailea izan zen.
Biografia
Elikagaien sektoreko eta ontziratze-sektoreko langileen ordezkari ziren sindikatuekin bat egon zen Balfour.[1] Hegoafrikako Sindikatuen Kongresuko (SACTU) buruzagi asko 1956ko traizioa leporatuta Epaiketetan atxilotu ondoren, 1957an Administrazio Batzordean sartu zen.[1] Balfour oso ontzat jotzen zuten, "garai oso zailetan langileen espirituak aintzat hartuta".[2]
Balfour 1958an atxilotu zuten apirileko "Etxean geratu" ekitaldian parte hartzeagatik, eta 20 edo 30 eguneko zigorra ezarri zioten "Randeko langile ez-zuriak bultzatzeagatik". Zigorra bertan behera geratu zen.[1] 1962an, Transvaaleko Afrikako Janariaren eta Ontziratuaren Langileen Sindikatuko (A-FCWU) idazkari nagusi bihurtu zen.[1] 1963an debekua jaso zuen sindikatuak, eta Roodepoorten etxeko atxiloketa ezarri zioten Mabeli.[1]
