Malmasin mendia Ganekogortako mendilerroko mendia da. Gaur egun, hala ere, Ganekogortaren mendilerroarekin zuen lotura A68 autobideak moztu du. Horrez gain, A-8 autobideak ere Malmasin zeharkatzen du, euren tunel ezagunen bidez. Halaber, haren magaletan Nerbioi eta Ibaizabal ibaiek bat egiten dute.
Malmasinek 361 metroko altuera du. Ollargan auzotik igo daiteke, baita Basauri eta Arrigorriagatik ere. Izan ere, mendi honek Bilbo, Basauri eta Arrigorriagarekin muga egiten du.
Mendiaren tontorrean Burdin Aroko eta erromatar garaiko herri harresitu bat aurkitu da. Aztarna hauek dira Bilboko lurretan aurkitutako aztarnarik zaharrenak. 2001ean Eusko Jaurlaritzak Kultura Ondasun deklaratu zuen Monumentu Multzo izendapenaz[1].
