Malta-ogia legamia gozoko ogi mota bat da, osagai nagusi gisa malta estraktuarekin egina. Ehundura zaila du eta askotan mahaspasak izaten ditu. Xerratan moztuta jan ohi da, eta gurinarekin igurtzita, tea hartzeko. Malta irina, batzuetan, zaporea osatzeko erabiltzen da.
Historia
1889an, John Montgomerie eskoziarrak “Making Malted Bread” izeneko patente-eskaera aurkeztu zuen, 1890ean onartua. Patente horrek 1886ko data zuen Britainia Handian existitzen zen aurretiazko patente bat baieztatu zuen. Montgomerie-k sakarifikazio-prozesu berritzailea aldarrikatu zuen: malta diastatikoaren estraktuarekin nahastutako masa-zati bat tenperatura egokian berotu eta denbora batez eduki zuen estraktuaren entzimek almidoiaren zati bat maltosa bihurtu arte deskonposa zezaten.
