Merostomata itsas Chelicerata klase nagusietako bat da. Bere barruan Eurypterida eta Xiphosura ordenak daude. Gaur egun 4 espezie baino ez dira ezagutzen, baizna Palezoikoan oso klase garrantzitsua zen. Egile batzuen ustez parafiletikoa da eta bi ordenek klase bana merezi dute.
Merostomata begi konposatuak dituzten kelizeratu bakarrak dira. Araknidoek jatorriz artropodo guztiek zituzten begi konposatuak galdu dituzte.
