Pholas dactylus txirla luminiszente espezie bat da, Pholas generoko espezieak bezala, Hego Amerikako Pazifikoko kostaldean banatzen dena. Arroka zulatzailea da. Europan prestigio handiko janaria zen.[1][2]
Argiarekiko sentikorra da, agerian jartzen denean bere oskola uzkurtzen da.[3]
