Pinot noir mahats barietate ezaguna da. Pinot noir mundu osoan hazten dute, batez ere eskualde hotzetan, baina batez ere Frantziako Borgoina eskualdearekin lotuta dago.
Munduko ardorik dotoreenetako batzuk ekoizten dituela uste da, baina barietate hori lantzeko eta ardoak egiteko zaila da.
