Sililo-eterrak silizio-atomoa lotura kobalentez alkoxi talde bati duten lotuta dauden konposatu kimikoak dira. Egitura orokorra R1R2R3Si−O−R4 da non R4 alkilo edo arilo talde bat den. Sililo-eterrak eskuarki alkoholak babesteko usatzen dira sintesi organikoan. R1R2R3 taldeak askotarikoak izan daitezkeenez konbinazio asko antola daitezke babes-efektua egokia eragiteko.
Sililo-eterren osagai ohikoenak hauek dira: trimetilsilil, tert-butildifenilsilil, tert-butildimetilsilil eta triisopropilsilil. Hauek oso erraz lotzen eta deslotzen zaizkio alkoxiari baldintza leunetan.
Adibidea
Sililo-eterren funtzioa esplikatzeako tert-butildifeniloaren (TBDPS) kasua baliatuko dugu. Adibideko molekulak bost hidroxi talde ditu erreakziona dezaketenak. Horietako bat selektiboki babes daiteke ez erreakzionatzeko TBDPS baliatuz baldintza egokietan[1].
