Historia
Erromatar Inperioaren garaian itsasartea askoz ere estuagoa zen: De Bello Gallico idazlanean Julio Zesarrek itsasbehera garaian erromatar gudariak uhartera oinez iritsi ahal zutela aipatu zuen. Solent itsasartea kostaldea defendatzearren eraiki ziren normandiar gotorlekuez betea dago, nagusiki Henrike VIII.a Ingalaterrakoaren erregealdian eraikiak.
1685an Jakue II.a Ingalaterrakoa Solent itsasartean izandako ontzi hondaketa batetik bizirik ateratzea lortu zuen. Ondorioz eta gertakari hori oroitarazi nahian, Henry Purcell musikariak They that go down to the sea in ships musika-lana konposatu eta John Gostling baritonoak abestu zuen.
