Tessalit ipar-ekialdeko Maliko udalerria da, Kidalgo eskualdekoa. 2012ko apirilean Azawaden Askapen Nazionalerako Mugimenduak independente aldarrikatu zuen Azawaden barnean dago. 2009an 5.739 biztanle zituen.[1]
Herria Adrar des Ifoghas mendiguneko oasi batean dago. Sahara Aljeriako hegoaldearen eta Maliren artean zeharkatzen duten turistentzako pausalekua da. Igeltsu harri meatoki batek eta igeltsu fabrika batek ere laguntzen diote bertako ekonomiari, baina, Tuareg matxinadak direla eta, 1990eko hamarkadatik haien jarduera moteldu da.
Tessalitekoak dira Tinariwen, blues tuareg estiloaren sortzailea, eta Terakaft musika taldeak eta Souéloum Diagho olerkaria.
Klima
Tessalitek basamortuko klima du (BWh Köppen klima sailkapenaren arabera). Oso euri gutxi egiten du, batez beste 68,5 mm besterik ez urtean.
