Tetrapirrol

Tetrapirrolak pirrol edo pirrol motako lau eraztun dituzten konposatu kimikoen klasea dira. Pirrol-eraztunak metino- (=CH−) edo metileno-( −CH2−) unitateen bidez lotzen dira, modu lineal edo zikliko batean[1].

Tetrapirrol batzuek sistema bizietan rol biokimiko erabakigarriak dituzten konposatuen nukleo aktiboa osatzen dute, hemoglobina eta klorofila kasu. Bi molekula horietan, zehazki, pirrolaren makrozikloak atomo metaliko bat biltzen du, pirrolekin koordinazio-konposatu bat eratzen duena eta molekula horien funtzio biokimikoan zeregin nagusia duena.

Molekulen tetrapirrol-zatiek kromoforo gisa jokatu ohi dute, horietan konjugazio-maila handia dagoelako. Beraz, konposatu horiek normalean kolorea izaten dute..
