Greziar mitologian Tifis Argo ontziaren lemazaina zen, argonautak urrezko ahari-larruaren bila joan zirenean ontziratu ziren ontziarena.
Guraso ezberdinak ematen zaizkio, Forbante lapitarra eta Hirminaren (Elideko Epeo erregearean alaba bat) semea, Hagniorena edo Beoziako Tiferena.
Bere bidaietako batean, Medeak, Tritonek oparitu zion katilu magiko baten bidez, Libiako Tritonis lakutik itsasora, basamortuan zehar, arriskurik gabe heltzeko jarraitu behar zuen bidea erakutsi zion.
