Tonkin[1] (vietnameraz: Bắc Kỳ, "iparraldeko eskualdea") iparraldeko Vietnamgo eskualdea da, Txinako Yunnan eta Guangxi probintziak, iparraldeko Laos eta Tonkingo golkoa mugakideak dituena. Ibai Gorriaren deltan kokaturik, Tonkin arroz-ekoizle oparoa da.
Historia
K.a. II. mendean txinatarrek eskualdea konkistatu zuten eta baita X. mendera arte mantendu ere. Vietnamdarren eskuetan izan zen 1883an frantsesek Frantziar Indotxinaren zati bat bilakatu zuten arte. Frantsesen protektoratu bilakatu zen Bigarren Mundu Gerrara arte. Gerra ondoren, Ho Chi Minhek Vietnamgo Errepublika Demokratikoa aldarrikatu zuen.
