Xal
Xala (persieraz: شال, shāl eta hau, ziurrenik hinditik: दुशाला, duśālā; sanskritoz: शाटी, śāṭī) oihal luze eta zabala da, lepoaren inguruan eta sorbalden gainean janzten dena. Bereziki emakumeek erabiltzen dute, apaingarri moduan.
Normalki oihal zati karratu edo laukizuzen bat da, erditik tolesten dena hiruki bat osatzeko, baina jatorrian ere hiruki formaduna izan daiteke.
Jatorria
Xal zein paxmina hitzak Kaxmiren sortu ziren, baina Hamadanen dute jatorria. Iturrien arabera kaxmirreko oihalgintza Sayeed Ali Hamadanik sartu zuen XIV. mendean, Ladakhera egindako bidaia batean aurkitu zuenean bertako ahuntzek sortzen zuten artilea oso leuna zela. Galtzerdi batzuk egin ostean Sultan Qutabdini proposatu zion oihalgintza industria bat hasteko.
