Zalgize Zuberoako antzinako udalerria izan zen. 1843. urtean Zalgize eta Doneztebe herriak batu egin zituzten Zalgize-Doneztebe udalerri bakarra osatzeko.
Toponimia
Frantsesezko toponimoa Sauguis da. 1470ean[1] Zuberoako notarioa zen Ohixek[2] horrela idatzi zuen herriko izena.
