Salvatore Garau (født 1953) er en italiensk samtidskunstner. Garaus verk omhandler ofte spørsmål som miljøvern, kultur og sosial etikk. [1] På 2020-tallet har han blitt kjent blant annet for sine «usynlige skulpturer», som har blitt solgt og «utstilt» internasjonalt.[2]
Virke
På en auksjon hos Art-Rite i Milano i 2021 ble verket Davant teu (In front of you, 2021) av Salvatore Garau, et signert papirark, solgt for euros 27.120 pluss auksjonsgebyrer[3].
I 2009 hadde han en separatutstilling på Musée d'art moderne et contemporain i Saint-Etienne, i Frankrike.[4]
I 2005 malte han et abstrakt verk på en 200 m2 plate av PVC, som deretter ble hengt opp for å dekke stillaset på en bygning i Corso Magenta i Milano.[5] For sin installasjon Ichthys Sacro Stagno på Sardinia i 2006 skapte han store dammer på gulvene i tre kirker i byer i provinsen Oristano, som han deretter fylte med fisk fra dammer i nærheten.[6][7]
Garau har arbeid i samlingene til flere museer, inkludert Museo del Novecento (tidligere i Civico Museo d'Arte Contemporanea),[8] Museo d'Arte Moderna di Bologna og Padiglione d'Arte Contemporanea i Milano.[6]
Garau har regissert to filmer om seg selv. I 2017 hadde langfilmen The Canvas (La Tela, 2017) premiere; filmen handler om hans forsøk på å lære fengselsinnsatte å skape kunst.[20] I 2018 hadde han premiere på kortfilmen Future Italian Frescos (Futuri affreschi italiani), som handler om hans egen kunst.[21]
