Era prononciacion qu'ei [a'ramits] (accent tonic sus la segonda sillaba). Eras fòrmas ancianas que son Aramiçs, en 1270, Aramitz en Baratons en 1376, Iramitz en 1383, Aramitz en 1606, Aramys en 1630, Aramits (mapa de Cassini, ara fin deth sègle XVIIIau) [2].
Dauzat qu'explica lo radicau d'Aràmits ei escur; lo nom qu'ei benlhèu a arreligar dab Aramon [3].
Miquèu Grosclaude non cred pas au ligam dab Aramon, mès que pensa lo nom ei basco. Ua prumèra solucion que seré aran + ametz, donc « eth casso dera vath », ua plan milhora qu'ei aran dab eth sufixe collectiu -itz, « lòc deras vaths, donc confluent », pr'amor s'i ajustan los Verts d'Areta e de Barlanès (en francés) [2]. Mès Grosclaude explica pas lo passatge d'*Arànitz a Aràmitz.
