Atòl
Un atòl es una pichona illa tropicala constituida per d'escuèlhs de coralh qu'enròdan una lòna sonada lagon. Lo mot d'atòl ven de atolu dins la lenga malaialam del sud-oèst d'Índia, a travèrs de l'anglés e del francés atoll.
Lo cercle d'escuèlhs es format per d'illòts de sabla coralliana, nomenats motu. Son de depaus calcaris d'algas e de madrepòra, sus una basa volcanica submergida. En general an una fòrta inclinason del costat de l'ocean, e pauca prigondor del costat interior. La lòna normalament a de sortidas a la mar per de canals estreches amb fòrts corrents d’aiga durant las marèas (graus). Dins la tranquillitat de las sieunas aigas se trapa sovent una granda varietat d’espècias marinas.
