La prononciacion es [bwɛ]. La sola fòrma anciana es : Sancti Sulpici, en latin, en 1520[1].
Segon Dauzat e Negre, lo darrèr citat per Bénédicte Boyrie-Fénié, Boèr es un nom de persona, equivalent del lengadocian central boièr, vengut del latin bovarius[2],[1].
Bénédicte Boyrie-Fénié accèpta l'explicacion. I a un pichon nom Boèria, citat al començament del sègle XIII a prepaus d'una « Perfièita » de la familha dels senhors de Lautrèc. Boèr es tanben lo nom d'ostal de Jansemin. Lo toponime es recent e probable que remplacèt un nom antic, benlèu Lille, ocupat a l'epòca romana e a la primèra Edat del Fèr [1].
