Las Iènas, que compausan la familha dels ienids (Hyaenidae), son de carnivòrs terrèstres de granda talha (de 95 a 165 cm per l'ièna pigalhada) que lor pes pòt variar de 15 a 85 kg segon las espècias. An un aspècte calossut amb darrièr tombant. Se tròban en Africa subsaariana, principalament dins la savana e prèp de punts d'aiga. Mentre que l'ièna sembla un can gròs, fa partida d'una familha biologica separada. Es coneguda per son crit revertant un rire desplasent.
Classificacion
La familha dels Ienids foguèt creada per John Edward Gray (1800-1875) en 1821. Se coneis encara quatre espècias d'Iènas.
