Lo tèrme informatica (mot compausat d'informacion e automatic)[1] designa la gestion automatizada de l'informacion per ordinator. Foguèt creat en 1962 per Philippe Dreyfus partent dels mots « informacion » e « automatica ».
- Per extension, designa tan lo material coma la concepcion e l'administracion de la partida immateriala d'un ordinator, los logicials.
- La lenga anglesa utiliza pas gaire aqueste concèpte, e destria puslèu :
- çò que pertòca lo foncionament dels ordinators e de lors programas (computer science),
- çò que pertòca la mesa en practica dels tractaments (data processing)
- l'evolucion de las tecnicas, e mai del material (informacion technology).
