Morthomiers (atestacion Mortuum mare, en 1064), coma los Mòrtamar e los Mort(h)emer, pòt venir del nom de la Mar Mòrta, sovenir de las crosadas, o representar de sanhas (lo resultat del latin mare pòt prene lo sens de « pesquièr, sompa, nausa, gana, lavanha, clòt, clòta » e l'adjectiu « mòrta » s'aplica a d'aigas estadissas) [1],[2],[3]; la màger part dels vilatges qu'an la meteissa etimologia son dins de combas o depressions e d'ancianas sanhas i son donc possiblas, mas es malaisit de precisar se n'es atal per Morthomiers.
