La pirimidina es un compausat organic, semblable al benzèn, mas amb un anèl eterociclic: dos atòms d'azòt substituisson lo carbòni dins las posicions 1 e 3. Se nomenan pirimidinas o derivats pirimidinics, los derivats de la pirimidina. Tres de las basas dels acids nucleïcs (citosina (C), timina (T) e uracil (U)), son derivats pirimidinics. En l'ADN e l'ARN, aquelas tres basas forman de ligams idrogèn amb las siás purinas complementàrias.
