Geografia
Très aigas asagan la comuna: Corana, Furon e Ai) (noms occitans de verificar). L'altitud es compresa entre 380 e 989 mètres.
Avant 1789, Praèus èra de la diocèsi de Viana[3], e donc èra originàriament part dau Vianés, coma una bèla part dau naut Vivarés.

Las atestacions ancianas son Praeuz (1275), Praheutz (sègle XIV)[3]. Lo nom sembla donc venir d'un ancian *Praèls, Pradèls, es díser, un diminutiu en -ellu de Prat. La grafia deuriá donc èsser Praèus o Prèus.
