Lo romaní o gitano, cingaro o tzingarin, o ròm (en romaní: Romani chib) es una lenga indoeuropèa de la branca indoiraniana, mai precisament indoariana. Es la lenga del pòble gitano (ròms), originari del nòrd d'Índia, qu'entreprenguèt una migracion massiva cap a la debuta del millenni II a la seguida d'una invasion turca gaznevida puèi seldjokida per colonizar l'Asia Menora.
Lo romaní se desvolopèt a partir d'una sola lenga populara o prakrit parlada dins la val mejana del flume de Ganges e que sa forma sabenta èra lo sanscrit.
Pendent lo long sejorn dels sieus locutors (1071-1381) dins lo Sultanat de Rom, jos dominacion seldjokida en Asia Menora, e ont la lenga oficiala èra lo persan e las lengas vernacularas lo grèc e l'armenian, lo romaní s'es enriquit de fòrça mots d'aquelas tres lengas.
