The Supremes
The Supremes, a l'origina The Primettes de 1959 a 1961, de 1967 a 1970 Diana Ross and The Supremes, èra un grop musical femenin anglofòn originari dels Estats Units, mai precisament de la vila de Detroit (Michigan), actiu de 1959 a 1977.
The Supremes foguèt de son temps lo grop femenin mai popular de l'istòria dels Estats Units, e es quitament l'un dels grops femenins avent vendut lo mai de disques dins lo monde entièr. Demest los títols emblematics dels Supremes en Occitània, se pòt citar entre autres Where did our love go, Baby Love, Stop! In the Name of Love, You Keep Me Hangin' on, Reflections, Nathan Jones, Stoned love etc.
A l'origina de las Supremes, i èra un qüatuor vocal compausat en 1958 de Diana Ross (nascuda lo 26 de març de 1944), de Florence Ballard (1943-1976), de Mary Wilson (1944-2021) e de Betty McGlown (1941-2008). Mas en 1960, Betty McGlown es remplaçada per Barbara Martin (1943-2020), abans qu'aquesta s'enane en 1962 del grop que se sonava encara The Primettes : The Supremes ven alavetz lo nom del trio.
En 1970, Diana Ross se tira del grop e entamena una remirabla carrièra sòlo, e ven en particular una cantaira emblematica del disco (tube Upside down en 1980). Pasmens, malgrat la partença de Diana Ross, lo grop contunha fins a 1977 ambe d'autras cantairas, Jean Terrell, Linda Laurence, Scherrie Payne o encara Susaye Greene.
