Pericit

Posnetek pericitov v mikrožilju s presevnim elektronskim mikroskopom − periciti obdajajo zunanjo površino endotelijskih celic, ki obkrožajo rdečo krvničko (E, eritrocit).

Pericít[1] je celica, ki s prstastimi podaljški oklepa endotelijsko cev mikrožilja (kapilar in pokapilarnih venul).[2][3] Periciti ležijo med duplikaturami bazalne lamine mikrožil[2] in komunicirajo z endotelijskimi celicami z neposrednim fizičnim stikom z njimi ter posredno s parakrinim signaliziranjem.[4] Morfologija, razporeditev, gostota in molekularne značilnosti pericitov se razlikujejo med organi in področji žilja.[5][6] Periciti imajo različne funkcije,[2] med drugim pomagajo pri vzdrževanju homeostaze in hemostaze v možganih, ki so organ z značilno obsežno prisotnostjo pericitov. V možganih periciti tudi vzdržujejo krvno-možgansko pregrado.[7] So tudi ključna sestavina živčno-žilnih (nevrovaskularnih) enot, ki zajemajo endotelijske celice, astrocite in živčne celice.[8][9] Periciti sodelujejo pri uravnavanju krvnega pretoka skozi kapilare,[10][11][12][13] in vitro pa se je tudi izkazalo, da sodelujejo pri odstranjevanju in fagocitozi celičnega drobirja.[14] Pomanjkanje pericitov v osrednjem živčevju poveča prepustnost krvno-možganske pregrade.[7]
