Samomat
Samomat je vrsta šahovskega problema, v katerem beli, ki vleče prvi, prisili črnega, da ga matira v navedenem številu potez. Običajno se označuje s s#2, kar pomeni samomat v dveh potezah.

Avtor problema na desni je Wolfgang Pauly (The Theory of Pawn Promotion, 1912), naloga se glasi samomat v dveh potezah. Če bi beli prisili črnega v potezo Lxg2#, bi bil problem rešen. V samomatu so seveda vloge obrnjene, zato se črni upira matiranju belega kralja. Če beli premakne lovca, gre črni lovec za njim in mata ni; prav tako ni dobra poteza s konjem, ker sprosti črnega kralja; poteza 1.e6 omogoči 1...exf6 in 2...f5; 1.f7 ali 1.fxe7 omogoči 1...Kxg7; 1.g8D ali 1.g8T ker po 1...Bxg2+ 2.D/Txg2; 1.g8S matira črnega, kar je povsem narobe v tej zvrsti problema; 1.g8L tudi ni dobro zaradi 1...gxf6 2.exf6 Lxg2 in beli lovec mora posredovati 3.Ld5. Edina poteza, ki črnega prisili v matiranje je 1.c8S. Naprej gre 1...exf6 2.exf6 Lxg2# ali pa 1...e6 2.g8L Lxg2# (beli promovirani lovec v tej varianti ne more preprečiti mata na d5 zaradi kmeta e6). Do rešitve pelje le podpromocija v skakača, dama, trdnjava ali lovec bi preprečili mat črnega.
Zvrst samomata je tudi refleksni mat. Poleg tega je samomat lahko maksimalist, v katerem mora črni vleči geometrijsko najdaljše poteze.
