La Xironda el xe un departemento fransexe de la rejon de l'Acuitania-Limuxin-Poitou-Charentes (Aquitaine-Limousin-Poitou-Charentes). El nome del departemento el riva dal nome de l'estuario fluviałe del corso de acua formà dai fiumi Dordogna e Garona, che i confluise inte la val de Bordeaux.
El teritorio del departemento el confina coi departementi de Charente-Maritime a nord, de Dordogna a nord-est, de Lot-et-Garonne a sud-est e de Landes a sud. A ovest el xe bagnà da l'Oçeano Atlantico.
El departemento el xe sta creà dopo ła Rivołusion fransexe, el 4 de marso del 1790, in aplicasion de ła leje del 22 de diçenbre del 1789, a partire dai teritori de łe province de Guyenne e Gascogne.
Fra el 1793 e el 1795 el nome del departemento el xe sta Bec-d'Ambès: se ga desidesto sto nome par difarensiare el teritorio dal nome del grupo parlamentare Xirondini.
Łe principałi cità, oltre al capòłogo Bordeaux, łe xe Blaye, Langon, Lesparre-Médoc, Libourne, Arcachon e Andernos-les-Bains.
