Ampelosaurus (/ˌæmpɪloʊˈsɔːrəs/ AM-pi-loh-SOR-əs; có nghĩa là "thằn lằn dây leo") là một chi khủng long sống vào cuối kỷ Phấn Trắng tại nơi ngày nay là Châu Âu. Loài điển hình A. atacis, được đặt tên bởi Le Loeuff năm 1995. Gần đây sự chú ý của phương tiện truyền thông đã làm cho người ta có thể cho rằng Ampelosaurus thành một trong những chi khủng long nổi tiếng nhất được biết đến từ Pháp.[1]
Mô tả
Giống như hầu hết sauropoda, nó có một cái cổ và đuôi dài, nó cũng có một bộ áo giáp dạng vảy cứng. Chi khủng long này dài khoảng 15 mét (50 feet) từ mõm đến đuôi. Nó được biết đến từ các mẫu hóa thạch xương và răng rời rạc.
Phân loại
Đặc điểm của đốt sống đuôi và sự xuất hiện của vảy gai cho thấy Ampelosaurus thuộc về Lithostrotia, một nhóm bao gồm Alamosaurus và Saltasaurus.[2] Nhiều nhà khoa học khác cho rằng Ampelosaurus thuộc về Titanosauria,[3] Saltasauridae,[4] và Titanosauridae.[1][5][6][7]
