Ba loài sau đây có quan hệ họ hàng dường như gần với Chlorophonia spp. hơn là với Euphonia spp.[3] Do vậy, tốt nhất nên chuyển chúng sang chi Cyanophonia Bonaparte, 1851, loài điển hình C. musica.
