Levi Strauss (/[invalid input: 'icon']ˌliːvaɪˈstrɔːs/, tên khai sinh Löb Strauß, tiếng Đức: [løːp ˈʃtʁaʊs]; ngày 26 tháng 2 năm 1829 – ngày 26 tháng 9 năm 1902) là nhà kinh doanh người Đức và là người đầu tiên thành lập công ty sản xuất quần jeans. Công ty của ông tên là Levi Strauss & Co. thành lập năm 1853 ở San Francisco, California.[1]
Nguồn gốc
Levi Strauss sinh ra tại Buttenheim vào ngày 26 tháng 2 năm 1829 thuộc vùng Franconia ở Vương quốc Bayern, Liên minh các quốc gia Đức, trong gia đình thuộc sắc tộc Do Thái Ashkenaz.[2] Ông là con trai của Hirsch Strauss và người vợ thứ hai là Rebecca Strauss. Năm 1846, Hirsch chết vì bệnh lao.[3] Năm 1847, khi 18 tuổi, mẹ ông, ông cùng 2 chị gái là Fanny (chị cùng mẹ) và Maila tới Mỹ để anh gặp 2 anh trai Jonas và Louis,[3] những người đã di cư trước đó và đang kinh doanh bán buôn hàng khô ở thành phố New York với tên công ty là J. Strauss Brother & Co.[4]
Di sản
Bảo tàng Levi Strauss được duy trì ở Buttenheim, Đức nằm ngay tại ngôi nhà nơi ông sinh ra được xây dựng vào năm 1687. Trung tâm Du lịch tại Trụ sở công ty Levi Strauss & Co. toàn cầu ở San Francisco với nhiều triển lãm lịch sử. Tại đây cũng có quỹ Levi Strauss khởi đầu với sự quyên góp năm 1897 cho Đại học California tại Berkeley.[5][6]
