Liancalus là một chi ruồi thuộc họ Dolichopodidae.[2] Chi này có ít nhất 21 loài phân bố rộng khắp thế giới, ngoại trừ khu vực Australasia và châu Đại Dương. Đây là nhóm chứa một số loài có kích thước lớn nhất trong họ Dolichopodidae, với chiều dài cơ thể ở một số loài đạt gần 12 mm.[3]
Danh pháp
Tên chi Liancalus Loew, 1857 được đặt để thay thế cho Anoplomerus Rondani, 1856, do tên này bị trùng với một chi bọ cánh cứng đã được mô tả trước đó. Tuy nhiên, tính hợp lệ của tên Liancalus từng bị đe dọa do sự thay đổi loài điển hình của Anoplomerus—từ "Hydrophorus Regius Fabr." (hiện là Liancalus virens (Scopoli, 1763)) sang "Hydrophorus Notatus Meig." (hiện là Scellus notatus (Fabricius, 1781))—trong một bản đính chính không đánh số trang bị bỏ sót ở trang cuối công trình của Rondani (1856).
