Họ Microbiotheriidae là một họ thú có túi thuộc siêu bộ Australidelphia được đại diện bởi chỉ một loài duy nhất là monito del monte, và một số loài đã tuyệt chủng được biết đến từ hóa thạch ở Nam Mỹ, Tây Nam Cực và đông bắc Úc.
Các loài họ này từng được xem là thành viên của bộ Didelphimorphia (gồm loài opossum Virginia); tuy nhiên, sự tích lũy của cả bằng chứng giải phẫu và di truyền trong những năm gần đây đã dẫn đến kết luận rằng chúng và các loài bộ Microbiotheria khác hoàn toàn không phải là trong bộ đó, mà thay vào đó có họ hàng gần nhất với các loài thú có túi ở Úc; cùng với nhau, các loài bộ Microbiotheria và các bộ của Úc tạo thành một nhánh Australidelphia mà ngày nay được cho là đã tiến hóa đầu tiên ở khu vực Gondwana ở Nam Mỹ. Họ này được Ameghino miêu tả năm 1887.[1]
Phát sinh loài
Phát sinh loài của siêu bô Australidelphia còn sống dựa trên công trình của May-Collado, Kilpatrick & Agnarsson 2015 [2] với các nhánh đã tuyệt chủng từ Black et al. 2012 [3]
