Palaeomedeterus là một chi ruồi tuyệt chủng thuộc họ Dolichopodidae, được ghi nhận trong các mẫu hổ phách Baltic và hổ phách Cambay có niên đại từ thế Eocen. Fernand Meunier lần đầu đề xuất chi này vào năm 1895 mà không kèm theo phần mô tả hay loài đại diện nào, dù ông có cung cấp hình minh họa cho sáu loài chưa được đặt tên (điều này giúp danh pháp Palaeomedeterus vẫn đáp ứng điều kiện hợp lệ theo Quy chuẩn Quốc tế về Danh pháp Động vật - ICZN).[2]
