Pontinus longispinis là một loài cá biển thuộc chi Pontinus trong họ Cá mù làn. Loài này được mô tả lần đầu tiên vào năm 1896.
Từ nguyên
Từ định danh longispinis được ghép bởi hai âm tiết trong tiếng Latinh: longus (“dài”) và spinus (“gai, ngạnh”), hàm ý đề cập đến các gai vây lưng vươn dài ở loài cá này.[2]
Phân bố và môi trường sống
P. longispinis có phân bố ở bờ Tây Đại Tây Dương, từ Georgia dọc theo bờ vịnh México trừ Cuba, ở biển Caribe từ Barbados, dọc theo Trung và Nam Mỹ từ Costa Rica đến Ceará.[1]
P. longispinis sống trên nền đáy mềm và cứng, được tìm thấy ở độ sâu khoảng 75–440 m.[1]
Mô tả
Chiều dài lớn nhất được ghi nhận ở P. longispinis là gần 32 cm. Cá có màu đỏ hồng, nhiều đốm đỏ sẫm ở thân trên, đặc biệt là dọc theo đường bên. Có các hàng đốm nhỏ trên vây lưng và đuôi.[3]

Sinh thái
P. longispinis có mô tuyến dày ở phía sau của các gai vây, được cho là có nọc độc.[4]
