Protomedetera là một chi ruồi thuộc họ Dolichopodidae. Chi này bao gồm bốn loài đã được ghi nhận, phân bố tại Papua New Guinea, Singapore và Malaysia.[1]
Tên chi được ghép từ tiền tố proto- với tên chi Medetera, nhằm chỉ ngoại hình của chúng trông giống như một phiên bản thu nhỏ và đơn giản hóa của chi Medetera.[1]
