Thrypticus là một chi ruồi chân dài thuộc họ Dolichopodidae.[1] Chi này hiện ghi nhận khoảng 90 loài đã được mô tả.[2][3][4][5] Toàn bộ ấu trùng đã biết của chi này đều ăn thực vật thuộc các họ Cói, Hòa thảo, Bấc và Lục bình. Con trưởng thành cái sở hữu ống đẻ trứng nhọn, chắc khỏe dùng để chọc thủng thân cây và gài trứng vào bên trong.[1][6][5]
