Upeneus farnis là một loài cá biển thuộc chi Upeneus trong họ Cá phèn. Loài này được mô tả lần đầu tiên vào năm 2017.
Từ nguyên
Từ định danh farnis được đặt theo tên của Farnis Boneka, Giáo sư khoa Thủy sản và Khoa học biển Đại học Sam Ratulangi, nhằm tri ân sự hỗ trợ của ông trong nghiên cứu của các tác giả.[1]
Phân bố
U. farnis hiện chỉ được biết đến ở ngoài khơi phía đông bắc đảo Sulawesi.[2]
Mô tả
Chiều dài lớn nhất được ghi nhận ở U. farnis là 14,1 cm (chiều dài chuẩn: standard length). Cá có màu nâu xám đậm ở lưng, có một vệt mờ cùng màu ở giữa thân. Râu cá màu xám nhạt. Thùy đuôi trên có 4–7 vạch màu nâu xám đậm, trong khi thùy dưới gần như hoàn toàn là sắc tố nâu xám. Vây lưng, vây hậu môn và vây bụng có sắc tố đỏ tạo thành các đốm hoặc sọc. Cá thể chưa trưởng thành khác với cá thể trưởng thành chủ yếu ở vây bụng dài hơn.[3]

Phân loại
Dựa theo phân tích kiểu hình, U. farnis được xếp vào nhóm chị em với Upeneus japonicus, nhưng gộp thành nhánh gần với các loài Upeneus francisi, Upeneus lombok và Upeneus saiab.[4]
