Upeneus indicus là một loài cá biển thuộc chi Upeneus trong họ Cá phèn. Loài này được mô tả lần đầu tiên vào năm 2010.
Từ nguyên
Tính từ định danh indicus bắt nguồn từ indikós (ἰνδικός) trong tiếng Hy Lạp cổ đại và mang nghĩa là "ở Ấn Độ", là nơi đã thu thập mẫu định danh của loài cá này.[2]
Phân bố
U. indicus hiện chỉ được biết đến duy nhất ở ngoài khơi Kochi, Ấn Độ.[1]
Mô tả
Chiều dài lớn nhất được ghi nhận ở U. indicus là 14 cm (chiều dài chuẩn: standard length).[3] Cá có màu hồng ánh bạc ở hai bên lườn, đỏ sẫm ở lưng và trắng ở bụng. Có 3 sọc nâu nhạt dọc chiều dài thân: sọc ở giữa kéo dài từ phía sau đầu đến gốc vây đuôi, sọc dưới cùng bắt đầu từ phía sau gốc vây ngực, và một sọc trên cùng ngắn hơn nằm ngay phía trên đường bên. Thùy trên của vây đuôi có 4–6 vạch nâu nhạt, thùy dưới có 4 vạch cùng màu, 3 vạch gần gốc nhất ở thùy trên uốn cong (các vạch vây đuôi rộng hơn khoảng trắng giữa các chúng). Vây lưng trước sẫm màu ở chóp. Râu cá màu trắng.[4]

Phân loại
Dựa theo phân tích kiểu hình, U. indicus nằm trong nhóm chị em của Upeneus suahelicus.[5]
Đánh bắt
U. indicus thường được đánh bắt trong nghề khai thác cá phèn hỗn hợp.[1]
