Upeneus madras là một loài cá biển thuộc chi Upeneus trong họ Cá phèn. Loài này được mô tả lần đầu tiên vào năm 2022.
Từ nguyên
Từ định danh madras được đặt theo tên gọi trước năm 1996 của Chennai, nơi mà mẫu định danh của loài cá này được thu thập.[1]
Phân bố
U. madras hiện chỉ được biết đến ở ngoài khơi Chennai (Ấn Độ), được thu thập ở độ sâu khoảng 73 m.[2]
Mô tả
Chiều dài lớn nhất được ghi nhận ở U. madras là 11,1 cm (chiều dài chuẩn: standard length). Cá có màu xám bạc, phần lưng hơi sẫm hơn, có các mảng màu đỏ bên dưới mắt. Một dải nâu đỏ mờ giữa thân từ mõm qua mắt đến vây đuôi, nối liền với dải ở thùy đuôi dưới. Râu cá màu trắng. Vây đuôi có 13 vạch xiên màu nâu đỏ, gồm 6 vạch ở thùy trên (hai vạch trong cùng hơi cong) và 7 vạch ở thùy dưới nối liền với một sọc dày màu nâu đỏ đến đỏ. Chóp thùy đuôi dưới đôi khi màu đen. Có một sọc vàng, be hoặc cam dọc giữa thân, kéo dài từ chóp mõm qua mắt đến gốc vây đuôi. Vây lưng có 4 sọc nâu đỏ.[2]

Phân loại
Dựa theo phân tích kiểu hình, U. madras tạo thành nhóm chị em với Upeneus pori.[3]
