Upeneus willwhite là một loài cá biển thuộc chi Upeneus trong họ Cá phèn. Loài này được mô tả lần đầu tiên vào năm 2021.[1]
Từ nguyên
Từ định danh willwhite được đặt theo tên của William T. White, nhà ngư học phụ trách Bộ sưu tập Cá Quốc gia Úc (Hobart), người đã thu thập, chụp ảnh và cung cấp các mẫu cá phèn từ Indonesia, gồm cả mẫu định danh của loài cá này, cho mục đích nghiên cứu phân loại.[2]
Phân bố
U. willwhite hiện chỉ được biết đến tại đảo Lombok (Indonesia), được thu thập ở độ sâu khoảng 25 m.[3]
Mô tả
Chiều dài lớn nhất được ghi nhận ở U. willwhite là 9,2 cm (dài chuẩn). Cá có màu sẫm nâu ở lưng, nhạt dần xuống phía bụng, đầu hoàn toàn màu nâu xám. Sọc giữa thân màu nâu sẫm, khó nhìn thấy ở mõm và nửa thân sau. Râu cá màu trắng hơi đỏ. Vây lưng có 3–4 sọc nâu mảnh. Vây đuôi có 5–6 vạch thẳng màu nâu ở thùy trên; thùy dưới có 6–8 vạch ngắn ở nửa dưới, nối với một dải nâu (dày xấp xỉ đường kính ổ mắt) giữa thùy, với thêm 3 vạch ngắn màu đỏ nâu ở nửa trên.[3]
