Viburnum là một chi thực vật gồm có 150–175 loài, được phân vào họ Ngũ phúc hoa (Adoxaceae) dựa trên nghiên cứu phát sinh chủng loại.[2] Trước đó các loài này nằm ở chi kim ngân, họ Caprifoliaceae.
Thành viên trong chi này phần lớn là các loại cây thường xanh hoặc cây bụi rụng lá, ngoài ra một số ít là các loài nhỏ mọc rải rác từ vùng ôn đới Bắc Bán cầu cho tới khu vực miền núi nhiệt đới ở Nam Mỹ và Đông Nam Á.
Tên gọi
Viburnum bắt nguồn từ tiếng Latinh, lấy từ tên loài V. lantana trong chi này.[3]
