Chiridotea coeca, atau isopoda pasir, adalah sebuah spesies krustasea isopoda yang ditemukan di Samudra Atlantik bagian barat, dari Nova Scotia hingga Florida.
Ciri
Isopoda pasir dewasa pipih secara horizontal.[2] Toraksnya hampir bundar dari tampak atas, sementara kakinya panjang dan bayak dengan seta besar. Abdomennya pendek dan lancip. Isopoda pasir mencapai panjang 15 mm (0,59 in) dan lebar 7 mm (0,28 in). Mereka menggunakan pasangan kaki terakhirnya untuk menggali terowongan di pasir. Ketika dikeluarkan dari terowongannya (misalnya karena ombak), isopoda pasir akan segera berenang kembali ke substrat untuk menggali kembali.
Ekologi
Chiridotea coeca memakan bangkai, yang mereka tahan engan gnatopodnya ketika menggigit potongan-potongan bangkai dengan mandibulanya.[3]
