Frederick Knight (lahir 15 Agustus 1944) adalah seorang penyanyi-penulis lagu dan produser rekaman berkebangsaan Amerika Serikat[1] yang terkenal lewat lagu, "I've Been Lonely for So Long."
Karier
Karier Frederick Knight bermula pada tahun 1972. Pada tahun itu, Frederick melakukan rekaman dengan Capitol Records dan Mercury Records di New York sebelum menandatangani kontrak dengan Stax Records pada tahun 1972. Dia memiliki satu-satunya single andalan di Inggris, "I've Been Lonely for So Long," pada tahun 1972.[2] Lagu itu berada di tangga lagu selama 10 pekan dan mencapai posisi ke-22.[3] Kurangnya aktivitas tangga lagu seterusnya membuat Frederick dicap sebagai seorang one-hit wonder. Namun, Frederick muncul dalam film dokumenter, Wattstax, dirilis pada tahun 1973.[4]
Selepas Stax Records bubar, Frederick meluncurkan Juana Records, mencipta dan memproduseri The Controllers, dan Frederick berada di peringkat jawara tangga lagu Inggris lewat lagu Anita Ward, "Ring My Bell" pada tahun 1979.[2] Frederick merekam lagu "I've Been Lonely for So Long" di Birmingham, Alabama, dengan kru Southern Soul yang berpengalaman di belakang Frederick, dan kembali sukses pada tahun 1975 lewat lagu, "I Betcha Didn't Know That."[1]
Lagu "Be for Real," dicipta oleh Frederick dan asalnya dibawakan oleh Marlena Shaw di albumnya, Just a Matter of Time (1976), dibawakan ulang oleh Leonard Cohen untuk albumnya, The Future (1992).
