Haplopteris adalah salah satu genus paku-pakuan sejati yang termasuk dalam anaksuku Vittarioideae, suku Pteridaceae.[2] Marga ini dibentuk menyusul revisi dari Crane (1997) terhadap marga Vittaria. Dua puluh anggota marga Vittaria dipindahkan ke marga Haplopteris. Oleh Christenhusz et al. (2011), marga ini ditempatkan dalam suku Pteridacaceae[3] menyusul penghapusan suku Vittariaceae.[4]
Dalam versi Kramer (1990), Vittaria beranggotakan 50 sampai 80 jenis.[3] Keanggotaannya berbeda-beda karena jenis-jenis anggotanya sebenarnya sulit untuk dibedakan satu sama lain. Dalam revisi tahun 1997 oleh Crane, hanya 34 jenis yang diakui dan kemudian dikenal sebagai Vittaria sensu lato (arti luas).[5] Lebih jauh lagi, Crane menempatkan 20 jenis ke dalam marga Haplopteris dan delapan jenis ke dalam Radiovittaria, sehingga hanya tersisa enam jenis anggota Vittaria, dikenal sebagai Vittaria sensu stricto (arti sempit).[5]
Haplopteris adalah epifit dengan bentuk ental yang sederhana, memanjang.[6] Anggota-anggotanya berasal dari paleotropis, seperti Afrika, Asia Selatan, Asia Tengah, dan Asia Tenggara, serta Australia dan Pasifik selatan.
