Puput ( Ilisha elongata ), juga dikenal sebagai gemprang adalah spesies herring sirip panjang yang berasal dari perairan pesisir dan muara Samudra Hindia Utara dan Pasifik Barat Laut. Ini adalah spesies yang relatif besar, hingga 45–60 sentimeter (18–24 in) panjang total. Ini adalah spesies perikanan yang penting.[2]
Perikanan dan pemanfaatannya
Spesies ini ditangkap secara komersial. Berdasarkan statistik perikanan FAO, tangkapan tahunan berkisar antara 80.400 dan 98.700 ton pada tahun 2000–2009, semuanya dari Pasifik Barat Laut (Area Penangkapan Ikan FAO 61) dan hampir semuanya ditangkap oleh China.[3] Dagingnya enak tapi tulangnya banyak.
