"Falling Behind" is a song recorded by Icelandic singer-songwriter Laufey. It was released through AWAL on 11 August 2022, as the fifth single from her first studio album, Everything I Know About Love (2022).

Background and release

Between February and July 2022, Laufey announced the release date for her debut studio album and released the album's first four singles. On 11 August 2022, when releasing "Falling Behind", Laufey explained why she wrote the bossa nova inspired song: "I felt like all the people around me were falling in love and I couldn’t help but feel like I was falling behind".^[1]

Live performances

Laufey sang "Falling Behind" for MTV Jammin' before its official release.^[2] On 14 August 2023, she posted a performance of the song recorded at a concert in Manila on her YouTube channel.^[3] "Falling Behind" was also part of the setlist of A Night at the Symphony, recorded at Harpa Concert Hall in Reykjavík, and ARTE's Sounds Like Art concert, recorded at the Museum Barberini in Potsdam.^[4]
