Pia Ranada-Robles is a Filipino journalist known for her work as a political reporter and multimedia journalist. She has gained prominence for her coverage of Philippine politics and currently serves as a senior reporter for Rappler, one of the Philippines' leading online news organizations.

Early life and education

Ranada completed her grade school education at Miriam College, graduating in 2004, and subsequently finished her high school studies at the same institution in 2008.^[1] She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in communication from Ateneo de Manila University with magna cum laude distinction.^[2]

Career

Ranada joined Rappler in 2012 and has since specialized in covering the Philippine presidency, politics, and policy. Her role as a political journalist gained significant attention during her coverage of the Duterte administration as Rappler's Malacañang Palace reporter.^[3]

Presidential coverage controversy

In February 2018, Ranada became the subject of national attention when she was barred from entering the Malacañang Palace complex, marking the first time since the Marcos dictatorship that a reporter was prohibited from covering the seat of government.^[4] The incident sparked discussions about press freedom in the Philippines, with various organizations, including Human Rights Watch which expressed concern about the implications for media freedom.^[5]^[6]

Personal life

Ranada is married to Dru Robles and has one daughter. Ranada is also an avid sports climber, a hobby introduced by her husband.^[8]^[9]^[10]
