Sherlock Holmes: Mare of the Night is an American independent horror mystery film written and directed by Texas filmmaker CJ Goodwyn, and based on characters and elements from Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories. Mare of the Night is Goodwyn’s fourth feature credit, after the horror films GH5 (2017) and Jackson (2019), and the historical drama Eyes of a Roman (2022). The film will be released in two parts,^[1] the first premiered in January 2025.^[2]

Premise

An emotionally broken Sherlock Holmes is forced to undertake his darkest investigation yet.

Production

Mare of the Night began as a short film, intended to act as proof of concept for a potential feature. Crowdfunding and screenings of the short at film festivals generated sufficient income and public interest to produce the full film.^[3]

The movie was filmed in Comfort, Texas.^[4]^[5]

Release

The film will be have a limited release in select Texas cinemas throughout January and February 2025.^[6] The premiere was held in San Antonio on January 24, 2025.^[2]^[7]
