At the time of the 2006 National Census, the city's population was 3,281 in 988 households, when it was capital of the former Taleqan District of Savojbolagh County,[7]Tehran province.[8] In 2010, the county was separated from the province in the establishment of Alborz province.[9] The district was separated from the county in establishing Taleqan County, and Taleqan was transferred to the new Central District as the county's capital.[5] The 2016 census measured the population of the city as 3,545 in 1,241 households.[2]
